James Acaster Interview

Twitter is a wonderful thing, you'll be surprised at what can happen just by tweeting someone, sometimes for the good and sometimes for the very bad (Piers Morgan, I'm looking at you!)

But one day, on the off chance I tweeted James Acaster as I bought tickets to see him perform at The Playhouse in Norwich and thought that I might be able to blag myself a quick interview with him for my blog, and I did ( Stuart Laws was also there too!)

Unfortunately I don't have any photographic proof that is ever happened, but I assure you it did and it was an amusing 20 minutes of my life.

( if you would like to actually hear the very un-professional interview, email me: courteneyfullerton@googlemail.com)

James Acaster is an up and coming comedian who has been featured on Nevermind the Buzzcocks and Mock The Week. He has been nominated for 3 awards, but now feels that winning stuff is overrated.

Anyway, enough of my babbling, this is how the interview went:

What made you decided that you wanted to become a comedian?

"I originally wanted to be in a band, I left school at 17 to just do bands and then when I was 22 my band stopped and had been in a series of bands since school and exhausted myself by trying to make them all work. So I started to do comedy, just to fill the days, not because I really wanted to do it. I didn't have any qualifications to fall back on, so I thought, whilst I figure out what I want to do, I'll do stand up as it's an adrenaline thing and it would be something I can look back on and say that I was proud that I did it."

"At first, I wasn't too sure about doing stand up but I just started to become obsessed and fascinated with it that I just carried on doing it. After a year and a half I decided that I wanted to do it as a job."

Where's the worst place you have performed?

"I was performing in Lincoln and during the interval someone in the crowd sent me an aggressive tweet, well, I thought it was a nice tweet and so in the second half I mentioned the tweet on stage and the guy revealed himself and he was like "yeah it was me and it was meant to be sarcastic, and I was saying that you don't have a very big crowd tonight" It was a night in Lincoln with about 80 people there, I was quite happy with that!

"It then transpired that he was part of a crowd that once made Frankie Boyle walk off stage. That then got the second half off to a weird start and I was getting glimpses of people in the crowd not enjoying it."

"Some people just go "Oh, there's comedy on at the Art Centre, we'll go and see the comedy" and the comedy in their head is going to any number of things, depending on who the person is and then I walk out and it's not what they expected, it's just some young guy being a knob."

I read that you can play the drums? What do you think you're better at, playing the drums or being a comedian?

"Comedian! I'm very rusty at the drums now, I used to practice everyday and I used to teach the drums, but now I would be really rusty at everything."

me: "You should incorporate the drums!"

J: " Well, I like to travel light, maybe one day when I can afford a van!"

You're from Kettering, so if I went there, what is the best thing to recommend?

"Well, it is pretty hip if you watch our online documentary series called Sweet Home Ketteringa! There is the Wicksteed Theme park, it has roller coasters in it. There kind of one notch above fairground rides. You know, living in a town with a roller coaster in it, that's still pretty good."

"You've got the Manor House Museum, which is a museum about Kettering like the history of the shoe trade and a mummified cat. You've also got a Chimichanga, 2 branches of Subway, Pizza Hut, KFC, all the fast food chains are there. You've got Rock and Bowl but it's now called New York Thunder Bowl which I object to."

"Once you've watched Sweet Home Ketteringa, you will want to go to Kettering!"

Who are your influences?

" Not you (looks at Stuart Laws) People who got me into comedy were people like Ross Noble, Eddie Izzard and it's a bit annoying because of the news but Bill Cosby was one of the reasons I got into stand up, but I really loved him when I was growing up."

"People like Josie Long, Will Hodgson and Dave Chappelle as well as people who are your peers, so, you don't copy them but you all get inspired by each other to work harder, so coming up with people like Josh Widdicombe and Nick Helm who are like my close friends on the open mic circuit and they were working hard, so it makes you want to work harder so you don't get left behind."

Sum me up in 3 words.

" You? Some you up in three words? I haven't known you long enough! Okay, Interview lady person, is that alright?"

So that was my interview with James Acaster & Stuart Laws ( in the background!)

Coast to Coast Christmas Menu

I wasn't very well a few weeks back and so wasn't able to attend the Coast to Coast Christmas dinner event down Riverside, Norwich. They were kind enough to invite me again and so I went along a few nights ago with my boyfriend Mick.

For those of you know don't know what Coast to Coast is, it's an American restaurant which prides themselves of excellent food and great customer service! They have some of the most amazing cocktails and the food portions are extremely generous! (they should warn you to wear an elasticated waist!)

The decor is really cool and feels like a true American restaurant, it has a soulful vibe to it and plays Motown and American rock music, my kinda place!

When we arrived, we were greeted by Darcy and Laz, who were both very helpful and friendly. We were shown to our table which looked really cute with the christmas candy canes and crackers!

We were shown the Christmas menu which is jam packed full of great dishes including the classic roast turkey dinner, Christmas soup and the maple bacon burger.

Seeing as we were getting ourselves into the Christmas spirit, we decided to treat ourselves to their Christmas cocktails!

I went for the classic Mimosa cocktail, fresh orange juice and Grand Marnier. It reminded me of Christmas day and being given some Bucks Fizz in the morning!

Mick on the other hand something a little more visually festive!

This consists of vodka, white chocolate liqueur, double cream AND vanilla syrup! I tried some and it was delicious!

We decided to choose the 3 course meal which is at a bargain price of £24.95, not bad for the amount of food you get. Check out the full menu here

After much decision making, I went for the spicy calamari and Mick chose the BBQ chicken tenders.

The calamari was perfect and the mayo dip was to die for!

Mick's choice: BBQ chicken tenders smothered in cheese and bacon with a BBQ dip!

At this point my stomach was just about ready to take on the main dish, the roast turkey dinner!

Monika the area manager informed us that all of the food is from a fresh source and the food is unique to Coast to Coast, for instance, the burgers are specially made for them, so you won't get their burgers anywhere else!

I couldn't believe my eyes on how big the portion size was, I was really impressed as some restaurants can be really stingy!
I love pigs in blankets, they make my Christmas and the stuffing balls were good too! I liked the fact they gave me roast potatoes and mash, good carbohydrate duo there!

Mick decided to go for the maple bacon burger, I was a little bit jealous when it came out!

The maple bacon burger came with 2 rashers of maple bacon (obviously) on top of a beef burger with onions, tomatoes and lots of maple syrup! it also came with sweet potato fries ( normal fries were available too!) and a spicy ketchup dip. Mick liked the fact it didn't have a salad garnish on the plate, he doesn't see the point!

I wasn't able to finish my meal as I was just too stuffed but I had to try and make room for dessert!

I have never tried pecan pie before and a lot of people rave about how nice it is, so I gave it a try.

If you have a very sweet tooth then this is the dessert for you! It was heavily caramel based with a nutty consistency to it, it was very delicious but I just couldn't finish it all, the roast dinner did me in! The vanilla ice cream complimented the pecan pie well and made the dessert very pleasant.

When it comes to food Mick doesn't mess about, he went all out and got the cookie cheesecake!

This baby is made from Oreos and is out of this world! If anything, come to Coast to Coast just for this! It served with chantilly cream and Oreo ice cream, yum!

We had a fabulous time at Coast to Coast, all the staff were extremely helpful and very happy! I will definitely be going back and trying all of their cocktails this Christmas!

Please check out their website and book yourself a table this Christmas!

Bloggers Love Hub Event

As I am signed up to the Bloggers Love Hub, I was invited to come along to one of their events that were spread over this November.

It was held at Kanaloa, a tiki style bar in London.

As soon as I entered the club, there was a really busy vibe and a hell of a lot of stalls to pursue!

I headed straight to the Umberto Giannini stand where they were doing complimentary hair styling and giving away hair products! They were really lovely people and they had time to have a chat about what hair products would be good for my hair.

I picked up the Grunge Glam Tousled Salt Spray*, Backcomb In A Bottle*, Princess Purrfect Hot Styler Spray* and some BOBBY PINS*!!! ( a girl can't have enough of these!)

If any of these take your fancy, head here to buy them!

Whilst my fellow blogging friends were getting their hair looking all sexy, myself and the lovely Shelly (http://the-shelley-diaries.blogspot.co.uk) went to get some cute mini manicures!

The ever so friendly Charlie from Toop & Daley did this set for me. She used Emerald City by Models Own and Wicked by Essie, which you can buy here and here

Toop & Daley are a nail tech and beauty therapy duo based in central London. They are mobile, so they come to your home or office and make you feel all girly and special, what a great treat in your lunch break! Check out their website here.

Another cheeky picture of my manicure ( oh, and some sweet smelling Snow Fairy Shower Gel I got from Lush - You can buy this here)

As I mooched around, I came across another company called Luxsit which is a beauty product company from Sweden.

Luxsit are a luxury organic skin care company who pride themselves in good quality products with minimal chemicals usage.

I was lucky to be given the Revitalise Facial Cream* which is designed for people with fine lines and helps to prevent further lines.

It is made from blackberry leaf extract and blackcurrant oil and has a fruity yet creamy scent to it.
This is perfect as a primer as well as using it on it's own!

I have been using it and it's brilliant, I would highly recommend it to anyone in their mid twenties, early thirties looking for a premium skin care brand.

A 50ml bottle will set you back £30, but trust me, it's worth the money! You can buy it here

I also got chatting to Angela the director of Timeless Truth Face Masks

There are three ranges of face masks: fusion, luxury and the Bio-Cellulose Masks

Fusion is facial sheet mask which is already covered in a serum and the ingredients are also in a powder form. This type of mask is a new innovative way of getting the best experience and results from a face mask.
I was given the Green Tea Phenol Soothing Mask* which is great for someone who suffers with acne prone and oily skin. The green tea is there to help the skin from oxidising and regulates oil secretion.

Luxury is slightly different as these face masks have been made with base materials such as elastic cotton, bio-cellulose and silk fibres. These materials are perfect for getting the maximum effect from the mask.

Bio-Cellulose is the ultimate mask in the anti-ageing skin care world! It is a nanoscopic fibre which works with the body and can penetrate through the inner layers, giving you a deep clean whilst letting your skin breathe still! (sounds pretty fancy to me!)

You can purchase these from here

The other stall that caught my eye was the Nadia Minkoff stall, a jewellery and handbag company based in London.

They had the most amazing black handbag I had seen in a long time, but unfortunately my budget couldn't stretch to £189!

Nadia Minkoff has some top notch hand bags and accessories, with leather being the most frequent choice of material!

Her range has been featured in the London Fashion Week in collaboration with Nico Didonna in 2013 as well as being showcased in all corners of the world!

I was given this stunning bracelet as a gift, I love the rose gold chain!

If you like the sound of Nadia Minkoff's range, go to her website here
Also, if you are partial to a bit of skull and crossbones type action when it comes to jewellery, check these out: Cut Glass Skull Collection

I wasn't able to go round every stall as it was just so busy, but I had a really good time and networked with some very interesting people!

This is what I came home with, pretty neat!

So that's it, that was my experience at the Bloggers Love Hub event!

Lyndsey Loves Launch Night

As I am relatively new to blogging, I haven't been to many events but when I was invited to an event in Essex, I was quite surprised my blog had reached across the Norfolk border!

I had been invited to attend Lyndsey Loves opening event at Chloe's Beauty Bar in Brentwood, Essex. If you aren't a TOWIE fan, then you won't be aware that Chloe's Beauty Bar is owned by Chloe Sims, a fellow TOWIE celebrity (exciting!)

When we arrived we were greeted by Jade (Tiger Lily Events) as well as a glass of bubbly! the venue was absolutely gorgeous and was decked out with decorations, food and Lyndsey Loves products!

My bubbly!

The food was out of this world, especially the sausage rolls!

The venue was full of people, so there was a really great atmosphere!

Lyndsey Loves sells a range of beauty and lifestyle products such as bath salts, candles, lip balms and even hats and lunch boxes!

I was able to pick myself up a gorgeous smelling lip balm from Lyndsey Loves by Long Winter Farm in Unicorn Farts, yes, that's right, Unicorn Farts! When speaking to Lyndsey she told me that it's exclusive in the UK to her company at the moment (awesome!) You can purchase these cute little lip balms for £4.95 from the Lyndsey Loves website:Long Winter Farm Lip Balms

Unicorn Farts smells a little bit like Murray Mints but more pepperminty, so delicious!

There are different flavours too like, Yeti Breath and Gingerbread!

We got to meet other fellow bloggers too which was nice, as well as mingle with new people!

It was such a great evening and I really hope that Lyndsey's new company sets off with a flying start! I will definitely be buying more products from her!

Just before we left, we had to grab ourselves one of these!

Don't forget to check out Lyndsey's website!

Neal's Yard Remedies Bloggers Event

The blustery, winter weather is finally upon us and so it's time to wrap up warm, stay inside and indulge in some nice treatments (go on, you deserve it girl!)

Neal's Yard Remedies is a fantastic place to find some perfect little treats for yourself (or your friends/family) for Christmas and was really grateful to be invited to their Norwich blogging event!

I met up with my two lovely blogging companions Siobhan (www.unexpectedgeek.co.uk) and Hannah (hannahmariebeauty.co.uk)

We were greeted by the ever so lovely Jessica French ( she had amazing hair!) and was given a glass of bubbly!

As well as some vegan friendly green tea whoopee cakes, tarts and cupcakes, ooh!

We were told that there were some treatment rooms upstairs (did not know that!) and that there were 2 therapists upstairs offering free reflexology and back massages! Well, me being me, I was in there like a shot, reflexology please!
(Just waiting to have what was the most AMAZING reflexology EVER!)

I was greeted by Zacharoula and she gave me a 15 minute taster treatment, it was incredible! A normal treatment session is an hour long and is only £20! She gave me lots of information on what reflexology is about and basically there are different pressure points on your feet which reflect your organs (if that makes sense?) so your toes are your head for example!

(This is Zacharoula :) she was a babe!)

If you're from Norwich then go and make an appointment with her! She is at Neal's Yard every Monday between 1.30pm-5.30pm, make a booking by calling: 01603 766681 or go to her website: http://www.tranquillybalanced.com

As I was coming downstairs from my luxury treatment there was an announcement being made about how Neal's Yard started and how all of their products are ethical and organic! One lucky lady goes around the world to find the ingredients that go into their wonderful potions and everything is fair trade/ethically friendly!

I came across Neal's Yards Superfood range which (please forgive me, I have forgotten her name) Helen* was talking me through.

Mostly all of the products in the jars can be thrown into a smoothie and give you what you need for the day!

I was told that Chia Seeds and Goji Berries are really good for toppings or you can make Chia Pudding (almond milk, chia seeds, other bits & soak over night!)

You can buy all of them for around £2-3 for 50g as well as the very informative booklet on Superfoods for £3.50.

As the evening progressed, I moved around the room to find my nose smelling everything! There were a few items which caught my eye (and nose) including the Melissa Hand Cream  £13.50

This hand cream made my hands super soft and it smells real good too! It contains almond oil and rose extract, yum!

I also discovered this treasure, sitting by the till! The all new Festive Fragrance Organic Aromatherapy Room Spray!

This cute blue bottle contains everything you love about Christmas! It smells exactly how Christmas should smell!

It contains clove and frankincense, the perfect aroma for your house this winter!

I finally got round to their frankincense range which smelt delicious!

The new Frankincense Intense Concentrate  is an anti-ageing product  similar to their anti-ageing cream but this is a serumIt hydrates your skin, smoothes & reduces fine lines and wrinkles ( 26 year olds get wrinkles, trust me!) as well as containing that special ingredient will know and love at the moment, Argan Oil!
This product retails at £65.

Neal's Yard are well prepared for the Christmas period and have got the gift sets at the ready!
Behind the candle is the Beauty Sleep Organic Spa Collection which I was told was an exclusive gift set for Christmas and isn't sold separately, so if you're a fan of ylang ylang and patchouli then this is a perfect gift for you! £35.

I had such a great evening and learnt a lot about what Neal's Yard do! Before I set foot in the door I wasn't aware they did superfood, organic tea and books!
It is a truly great company with some worthwhile products!

As a thank you, we all received a little present!

You can buy this online here: Neal's Yard Gift

I hope you enjoyed this read and I hope you come back soon :)
