Lust & Liquor: New Bar/Restaurant Graces Norwich

The other week I was invited to the pre-opening of Lust & Liquor, a fab little restaurant/bar on St Benedict's Street, Norwich. Norwich is well known for it's quaint bars and arty vibe and Lust & Liquor fits in quite nicely. If you're a fan of South American food and drink, then this is the place for you.

You will know when you've arrived as there is a massive painted sign on the side of the building with a movie star dressing room-esque sign to go with it.

So the bar is owned by the very friendly Darren Fitzpatrick, he has been in the hospitality business for a long time and has gained the experience and knowledge to open up his own place. We were greeted by some welcoming staff and were offered a cocktail, as I was driving I had to go for a virgin cocktail, but nevertheless it tasted delicious.

The cocktail menu is pretty extensive with the cheapest starting at £6.99, not bad for a cocktail with a double shot in it! We were able to catch one of the bartenders do his magic with some bourbon and what I can only describer as a alcohol hoover ( obviously, this is not the technical word for it)

It was really impressive and the chap knew his stuff, which is always nice to know when someone is selling you alcohol!

Once we got settled we were inundated with tasters from their food menu, chips, chicken wings, mini burgers, pork belly, you name it they had it and it was real hearty food.

The burgers were to die for, although they were only mini, they were certainly filling. I can't wait to come back and try out a full meal.

The atmosphere was really good, considering it was a pre-opening event, there were plenty of people there to support the new restaurant/bar.

It had a New Orleans kind of vibe which I thought was a nice touch, it's definitely different to the rest of the competition out there. If you are a lover of cocktails and meat, then I highly recommend this place. Visit their Facebook page or pop in for a quick smoked applewood bourbon!

I will definitely be paying another visit soon but this time with the boyfriend, bourbon and smoked meats are his best friend.

Until next time...

Norwich Bloggers Event - #norwichmeet

It took months of preparation and stressful moments but the Norwich bloggers event on the 19th January finally arrived and what a pleasant evening it was. Myself, Hannah, Siobhan and Justine spent a lot of time planning this occasion, with organising the venue, the gig, the goody bags plus other bits and bobs but we got there in the end.

For some reason I didn't take many photos, this could be down to the fact that I was running around like a blue arse fly, so most of the photos featured in this blog post will be from Hannah Roberts and Andy Dane

We wanted to host an event which brought all bloggers from Norfolk together and chance for them to socialise and network with each other. We were lucky to find The Birdcage who allowed us to use the venue for free (thanks guys), we also wanted to try and raise some money for a charity as well, so we chose Women's Aid - This is a charity set up to help women and children who have been or still are affected by domestic violence.

When the day came we were rushed off our feet in preparing the venue and getting all the goody bags ready.

We were lucky to have some people come down to showcase what they do such as Joni Matthews, a student from Jackie Hamilton's Beauty School, doing cute make-overs.

We also had the fabulous Georgia Shackleton (aka Speckled Hen Vintage) who came down with a small selection of vintage clothes from her stall on the market.

My friends Nancy and Nick were able to join us and showcase some of the best cupcakes I have ever tasted in my life. They had lemon and toffee cupcakes as well as this delicious fudge they made from Oreos. Their company is called The River Kitchen and will be opening soon in Wroxham.

Once the guests arrived it was all go from there, the Birdcage was packed out and everyone was using this opportunity to get to know one another.

At the beginning of the evening we had a little photo booth set up, so everyone could have their photo taken. I think I was having a bit of a bad day as all of the photos with me in it looked horrible!

I was so happy with how the evening panned out, it was just refreshing to hold an event like this for bloggers.

We held a raffle as we wanted to raise money for Women's Aid, the response we got from companies in regards to prizes was amazing. We had the likes of Neal's Yard Remedies, Philip Browne, Sin Sins, Crabtree & Evelyn, Lisa Angel, Love Clothing and Aubergine Fox

One lucky winner, Charley Parker, went home with a Fred Perry leather wallet and some Neal's Yard goodies!

Just after the raffle prizes were given away we decided to hand out the goody bags. These bags were filled to the brim with treats, I was so happy with what we received from companies.

Companies included in the bag were:
Coast to Coast
Sin Sins
Bodhi & Birch
Neal's Yard Remedies
Benefit
Wild About Beauty
Drinkwel
Fake Bake
Lola Lo
Lisa Angel
Neal and Wolff
Body Shop
Hot Hair
Paul Mitchell
No.7
Manflu (for the boys bags)
Kettle Chips

After the bags were given out, the gig began. Luckily I have a lot of talented friends and they were able to come down and play a few sets for us all. First up we had John McKay on the acoustic guitar.

Then our very own Hannah Roberts came to the stage with her ukulele.

Georgia & Aaren also played an easy listening set with Georgia on the fiddle and Aaren on guitar.

And to end the successful evening Tibetan Night Terrors played an absolutely brilliant set.

(I unfortunately can't find any photos of them from the evening!)

We were able to raise £95.40 for Women's Aid which was really quite amazing, I didn't think we would make that much.

I would just like to thank all the companies, musicians and bloggers that made this an awesome evening and we hope to do another one soon!
